Acceptance — Flyway: Journal of Writing and Environment

Posted on 23 February 2011

Last week, when I posted the photos of my cats with the American Literary Review, the whole thing felt a little bittersweet. Yes, the cats looked absolutely delighted to be photographed with lit mags as always (and the whole cat-photo thing is definitely not weird/ridiculous/pathetic at all). But ALR was the last print journal slated to publish one of my stories, which meant that I had no idea when I’d be able to trick lovingly encourage my cats to pose with another lit mag in the future.

I am relieved to say that this is no longer an uncertainty. Flyway: Journal of Writing and Environment recently accepted my short-short story, “Wedding Season,” for its next issue.

Of my recent publications, this will be the first story that is not part of Living Arrangements. “Wedding Season” is a newer piece and will, I suppose, be a part of my next collection. The story is about a couple who attends four very different weddings throughout the course of a year. I’ll give more details when the issue appears, which should be around mid-March.

Saucy and Cirrus took in the good news by napping for about sixteen consecutive hours. They must be catching up on their beauty sleep in preparation for the next photo shoot, right?

Haha, that is obviously why they are sleeping. Being that pretty is not easy!

    Congrats! Excellent news.

Congratulations! You’re on a bit of a roll here — may it keep going and going. And those cats are too darn funny. The dark one in the foreground (is that Saucy?) appears to be saying, “Oh, no cameras please. I need my beauty sleep and you people are annoying me.”

  • Thanks guys! Yes, that is Saucy, giving the camera (and me) her famous glare.

Hey, we all need our beauty sleep. Congratulations again, Laura! Licking index finger and touching it to butt cheek. Tsss!

    I think that’s a ‘Yo, what’s up dude?’ look.
