Seemingly Ordinary

Posted on 25 August 2011

I’m not sure what I did right in a past life to warrant a blurb from Dan Chaon for Living Arrangements. Here it is:

“Laura Walter writes with thoughtful compassion, and has a keen eye for finding the poetry in everyday life. Beneath the seemingly ordinary surfaces of her characters, she uncovers powerful emotional truth.”

Dan Chaon, author of AWAIT YOUR REPLY and STAY AWAKE

Stay Awake is Chaon’s next short story collection, by the way, coming out in February. Something else to look forward to once the long Cleveland winter sets in. (Also, if you haven’t read Await Your Reply, you really need to. Here’s a review. And hey, check out the German cover!)

What do you find beneath the surface?

  • I read Await Your Reply for a class at WAC and loved it. Having such a complimentary blurb from him must be amazing! Congrats!

Great blurb! You deserve it and I repeat, I can’t wait to read your book.

I find Lego bricks pretty much everywhere these days.

    Yay! That is so fantastic!

Porkchop, the kitty. Under everything ready to pounce. That boy was born is stealth mode.

He’s off for his snip-snip today and I’m as nervous as a new mom.

First – Your writing merits that blurb. I have no doubts about that.
Second – Thank you for the tip about Dan. I’ll be seeking out his work.
    Third – Thank you.
Last – That photo is oddly compelling.

To Lyra – May that little guy’s surgery go well. xo

  • Wow! I’ve read Dan’s stuff–he’s fabulous! And clearly, he has good taste! I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to Living Arrangements.

Just have to figure out how to get my copy signed…

LAURA!!! Our Laura has been blurbed by Dn Chaon. I feel faint. Really. I adore Dan Chaon in the freaky sort of way writers worship great writers from afar. Congats, our Laura. Dear lord.

I’m ordering this issue of the lit mag. Can’t wait to read your story!!
