Book Launch Party

Posted on 18 November 2011

I’m happy to announce that I’ll be celebrating the publication of Living Arrangements Dec. 1 at Mac’s Backs in Cleveland. And you’re invited to join me!

Mac’s Backs is a fantastic independent bookstore on the east side of Cleveland. We’ll be celebrating in the basement from 7-9pm on Thursday, Dec 1. I’ll give a brief reading around 7:30pm, followed by Q&A, but most of the evening will be reserved for eating, drinking, chatting, and me wandering around in disbelief that I’ve actually published my first book.

While I know most of my blog readership is outside the Cleveland area, I’m still extending an invite to my blogging friends. If you can attend, please contact me at so I can plan accordingly. (I would love nothing more than to pack Mac’s Backs to capacity, but since the store is not exactly big enough to hold the entire Internet, RSVPs would be helpful.)

Here are the details:

Living Arrangements Book Launch
Thursday, Dec. 1 · 7-9pm
Mac’s Backs
1820 Coventry Rd.
Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118

Even if you can’t attend, you can still help me out with ideas, food and drink suggestions (I have a Trader Joe’s and I’m not afraid to use it) or any anecdotes/advice from other book launch parties or readings you’ve attended in the past. Any takers?

You know the blog circle will be there in spirit, my friend. We’re all so very proud of you.

  • We know how much you like trees. Maybe you can incorporate them somehow into the evening. Perhaps scatter leaves around the table or something. Sounds a bit out there, I know, but why not have some fun with it!

Congratulations, again, Laura. We’re all so excited for you.

      yes–the tree theme!

      love it.

can you make pins that resemble your thrift shop find? little take aways?

(planning my book launch party is one of my favorite things to do on a walk. i imagine red hot chili peppers showing up to play a set, my friends, family, fans and all the publishing rock stars i can imagine, shrimp appetizers, and oprah. you know, the usual.)

    Hello Cleveland!

As Averil said, we will be there in spirit. I just checked my Amazon account and Living Arrangements should be delivered to me by mid December – an early Xmas present!

    Wear the brooch!

Will email you with a few tips from my mother’s launches.

I would love to be there! Wishing you a fabulous launch.

P.S. I’ve forwarded this post to my friend in Cleveland. I hope he can make it as my proxy.

  • You are only an hour and a half away! Damn. If it was on a weekend, I could guarantee my appearance. Like everyone else, I’ll be there in spirit. And maybe–who knows? I do need a signed book…

    • It was really hard to pick a date and while I wanted a weekend night, it just wasn’t in the cards! But who knows, maybe I’ll have a weekend event somewhere else in Cleveland in 2012 and you’ll be able to make the trip. :)

  • Erika Marks says:

Oh, I so wish I could be there!

I love MSB’s point about the tree theme. I wish I could offer some great tips–I didn’t actually have a launch, so I’ll be looking to you for how-tos from here on out!

    • Did you consider having a launch party for LITTLE GALE GUMBO, or was it just something you weren’t interested in? I’ll be sure to let everyone know how mine turns out. It’s going to be fairly small and modest, so hopefully it will all go smoothly. (At least, that’s what I’m telling myself.)

  • Teri says:

How fun. How nerve wracking. How exciting!

The launches I enjoy most are when the writer spends a few minutes talking about how the book came to be (maybe a few funny anecdotes, like the “apron stings”) before actually reading from the text.

Good luck Laura. We will all be there in spirit.

  • Lyra says:

    Oh, Laura!
The time has finally come. Can you believe it??
I’m so sorry I won’t be able to make it. But alas, Thursday is out of the cards for a drive from Chicago. You will be in my thoughts the entire night, and I hope you have a full house of support.
    Congratulations again!
