Feeling Chic-y

Posted on 11 September 2012

Tonight is the launch party for Rust Belt Chic: The Cleveland Anthology, which I’ll sadly have to miss because I’m traveling for work. But before I left, I lured Saucy and Cirrus into my writing room and took this photo. Saucy’s willingness to be photographed for a full 5 seconds before swanning away helps make up for the fact that I’m not only missing the event, but that I’m missing it at the Happy Dog.

The Happy Dog is the place to go for pinball, polka nights, tater tots, and hot dogs piled high with any toppings you can imagine — I’m partial to peanut butter and dill pickle on the veggie dog. Following my book launch party last December, I went to the Happy Dog for a shot of whiskey, a cheap beer, and a few rounds of pinball. So clearly, I already associate this bar with the finer aspects of the literary life, which means I’m deeply disappointed to have to miss this event.

The anthology looks great, and I still can’t believe it was put together in only a matter of months. I hope to bring you a few blog interviews with some of the contributors in the coming weeks. For now, I’ll see if I can round up some whiskey and a veggie dog so I can at least be there in spirit.

What are you missing today?

I’m missing some sleep and a bowl of salted caramel ice cream.

Luckily, I know where the ice cream is . . .

I’m missing my husband. But not the sound of the TV.

We’ve been out of the country for 10 days and I’m missing my dogs. Terribly. So here’s to Cirrus and Saucy, the rulers of your roost.
